Stone Barn Wedding - Rosie & Simon

Rosie & Simon’s Cripps Stone Barn wedding took place last December in the rolling Cotswold Hills. It was a fantastic day that distilled all the things I look for in a great wedding and mixed them together in perfect proportion. Big emotions, expressive faces, drama, style, sincerity and festivity blended together into one of the best celebrations I can remember. Simon and his brother Chris are old friends of mine and shooting for friends is always extra special. I was also assisted during the morning by the brilliant David Weightman of Married to My Camera. David is an extremely accomplished photographer and it was a pleasure to work with him for the first time. Many thanks David!

The day got underway with Rosie and Team Bride at The Wheatsheaf in Northleach and Simon and the boys down the road at Casina Cottage. The getting ready room at The Wheatsheaf featured a fairly interesting piece of art, keep an eye out for the rather in-your-face subject! He prompted a fair bit of discussion and even more laughter!

A Drop Dead Gorgeous Dress

Rosie’s dress was a sumptuous Stella York number. It’s one of my all time favourite dresses because it looked incredible and fitted her exquisitely. I am confident that when I look back in 5, 10, 20 years, it will stand the test of time. Once ready it was off to Stone Barn for the ceremony. Despite slightly dreary weather, Cripps Stone Barn looked resplendent and the atmosphere felt even better. Simon and his gents wore black tie, a thousand fairy lights twinkled, candles flickered and fires blazed, and the whole place buzzed with excitement. It is very cool capturing these compelling energetic moments, especially when you know the couple personally. It’s exhilarating and quite frankly this is why I shoot weddings.

The huge fireplace in the main barn was the backdrop for Simon & Rosie’s wedding vows. Past Stone Barn weddings I have photographed have centred around the large window in the middle of the room, but seeing as this was a December wedding, a roaring fire was ideal. It’s always interesting shooting a familiar venue in a new way and so it proved here.

Blue Sky Rising

Once Rosie & Simon were firmly Mr & Mrs, welly boots were donned and, despite a tight schedule and iffy weather, we braved the elements for some natural portraits. We’d met up a few weeks prior for some engagement photos and I knew I could rely on these two to be equal parts very fun/very silly and massively in love. First portrait to last took just seven minutes and in that short time we caught some lovely moments. When the wind blows in the right direction and the clouds clear to blue, it’s a real bonus!

The speeches were by turns moving and hilarious and the food, as always at Stone Barn, was delicious. Rosie and Simon had something like 150 guests and with Christmas just around the corner the party didn’t need too much prompting! For the evening they had both a band and a DJ, at opposite ends of the Stone Barn. I knew it’d be the case but these guys did not disappoint on the dance floor. Throwdown of the highest order! In recognition of the season, Rosie & Simon asked all their guests to bring Christmas jumpers. Sparkler photographs in the evening, with 150 cheering loons dressed in festive knitwear was a photographic first!

Anyway, enough chatter from me, you’re here for the photographs. This was an incredibly hard wedding to cut down to blog size. But I tried!
