Warmwell House Wedding – Lucy & Huw

It’s not every day that I get to photograph a marriage at a place that feels more like a beautiful family home than a wedding venue, but that was exactly the vibe of Lucy and Huw’s wedding at Warmwell House in Dorset. Nestled near Dorchester, this Jacobean manor isn’t your average wedding location—it’s a real family home, run with warmth and care by Sam and Serena. It’s the kind of place I absolutely love working at: intimate, welcoming, and brimming with personal touches. 

The weather was a dream for an early September wedding. The kind of day that still feels like summer, baking hot and drenched in golden sunshine. Lucy got ready in the gorgeous main house, which was a perfect blend of elegance and comfort, with big, airy rooms and beautiful windows that frame the stunning countryside views. Huw, on the other hand, was down the drive in the smaller but equally charming gatehouse.

One of the things that made this day feel so magical was the walk to the ceremony. Lucy and her bridal party walked the short distance down the drive to Holy Trinity Church, which sits within the estate, opposite the Gatehouse. There’s something about a bride walking to her wedding ceremony through the countryside that is hard to beat, especially on a day as glorious as this. I love the pre-ceremony thrill of every wedding day, but this was particularly special because of that magnificent stroll.

The ceremony itself was held at Holy Trinity Church, and I have to give a special shoutout to Vicar David, who was an absolute gem to work with. I often try and come along to wedding rehearsals and I’m glad I did for Lucy and Huw because not only did it result in some fun pre-wedding shots, but I got to meet Shadow. Shadow is David’s dog and anyone who follows my insta knows that I am slightly dog-mad. Shadow has this remarkable ability to perch on David’s arm like some kind of mountain goat – not something I’d seen before!

Once Lucy and Huw were officially married, and suitably showered with confetti, they led their guests back to the house for a drinks reception in the gorgeous Stone Garden. The marquee set up alongside the house looked amazing — open-sided to let in the evening air, it was one of those settings that had me pinching myself. Is this really my job??! The speeches were heartfelt and full of laughter, furniture assembly gags were especially funny (you had to be there!), and it was clear to see just how much Lucy and Huw are loved by their friends and family. These guys radiate good vibes.

As the night drew on we moved across to the Coach House for dancing and ties-on-heads. If there’s one thing Lucy and Huw know how to do, it’s throw a party. The night finished with one of the best sparkler departures I’ve ever witnessed. I’ve made something of a habit of these over the years – they are a brilliant way to cap off the evening. They’re best done as the last event of the night; a way to get people outside and heading for home and they’re a big part of why I always offer a midnight finish as standard. 

From start to finish, this wedding was an absolute joy to photograph. Lucy & Huw could not have been more fun and their family and friends were, without exception, legends. Warmwell House has definitely earned a top spot in my list of all-time favourite wedding venues—it’s hard to beat a venue that feels like home, but also comes with the luxury and elegance of a grand estate.
