Lauren & Scott’s wedding at Farnham Castle was a real joy. This lovely pair were married back in early autumn 2018 and apart from some morning rain they ended up with a gorgeous weather. I met Lauren and Scott at the Farnham Castle wedding fair the preceding January and it was clear from the beginning that they were planning a spectacular day. Between magicians, fireworks, drone photography and a top notch band, these guys had thought of everything.

Lauren got ready with her bridesmaids and her Mum in the Gatehouse at Farnham Castle while Scott and the gents got the ball rolling at The Bush Hotel at the foot of Castle Street. Being quite close to one another, a bit of simple planning made it easy for me to bounce backwards and forwards between the two. I always like to do this where possible as it really adds to the sense of story.

Lauren & Scott were married at The Spire Church in central Farnham. I’d not shot in this church previously but Rev Michael Hopkins was extremely welcoming and put everyone at ease. The Spire Church has a central block of pews with aisles either side. It’s an interesting arrangement that, for a wedding, allows for separate ‘entrance’ and ‘exit’ aisles. If memory serves the last time I shot in a church with this arrangement was way back in 2013 at Lincoln’s Inn. I love the little idiosyncrasies that make each wedding distinctive. Lauren and Scott beamed throughout the service and left no-one in any doubt that they were pretty delighted with the situation!

Sunshine, Drones and Portraits

It had rained just before the ceremony but, once married, Lauren & Scott emerged into bright sunshine. It was then back to Farnham Castle where the couple were met by their guests. They first lapped the gravel turning circle in their Regent Landaulette before being driven to the castle courtyard and announced down the Foxes’ Steps. Lauren & Scott had hired drone specialists CineCloud to look after their videography needs and during the reception they flew their amazingly cool (and huge!) octocopter for some aerials of the couple, guests and castle.

After the wedding speeches we snuck out for portraits in the beautiful evening light. While a lot of couples want to walk up to the Keep for photographs, it’s not often that we are blessed with sunsets as glorious as this one. Needless to say we made the most of it! Add to this sumptuous scene a seriously handsome bride & groom who are obviously head-over-heels for one another and frankly my job ends up being rather easy!

Fireworks

Lauren & Scott had organised a fireworks display for the evening and, following the first dance, they took their guests out into the Rose Garden to surprise them. It was a perfect evening, warm and clear and everyone loved the display. Karizma looked after the music (these guys are fantastic) and as a consequence the dance floor was wild all night.

The evening wrapped up with one of my favourite bits of silliness in many a wedding. Scott’s best man Steve, having completed his appointed tasks with unimpeachable diligence, enjoyed a few drinks. Certainly well deserved right?! He then promptly fell asleep in the Tindle bar. Of course the inevitable happened. His mates took turns inserting straws into his slumbering barnet like some sort of crazed booze-fuelled version of Pop-Up Pirate. The resulting look of stunned recognition when Steve woke up was satisfyingly priceless.

Anyway, that’s enough from me. To sum up, it was a tremendous day and Lauren & Scott played a blinder. They packed an incredible amount of goodness in and moreover were some of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Thanks for having me guys!
