Sophie & Matt were married at Farnham Castle in February on a day that can only be described as unseasonably warm. I absolutely loved shooting for these guys and I’ve been looking forward to sharing their pictures on the blog. As usual, at this time of year I’m rather behind with blogging!

Sophie has to be one of the smiliest, happiest brides I’ve ever worked with and the bridal prep, in the Castle Gatehouse, felt excited, yet totally chilled. I met up with Matt in the Tindall Bar on the other side of the Castle. The Tindall Bar is a new addition for Farnham Castle and was freshly renovated over the winter – it’s a lovely spot for a pre-ceremony drink. Amazingly, and unbeknownst to each other, Matt & Sophie had bought each other matching wedding presents. Rolex watches for two! You know you’re in sync when this sort of thing happens; definitely a good omen. Wedding serendipity at its finest!

I think you’ll agree that Sophie looked absolutely ravishing in her Pronovias dress. Sophie’s not the sort of girl to take anything too seriously and she wryly insisted on referring to the dress as simply ‘Mildred’, which is the name of her particular design. This proved utterly hilarious and the countdown to ‘Mildred Time’ was a recurring joke throughout the morning. The dress itself was a knockout. A figure hugging bodice and a truly show-stopping skirt of tulle frills – genuinely special.

Normally a walk across from Gatehouse to Castle in mid-February is a somewhat brisk and blustery affair. Not this time. The sun shone and the air was still and everything felt astonishingly mild. I love the fact that Bride’s at Farnham Castle cross from the Gatehouse. It’s a really lovely in-between moment that often makes for striking images. Sophie & Matt were married in the Lantern Hall and the grin on Sophie’s face as she came down the aisle was Cheshire Cat wide. After the ceremony was concluded, the new Mr & Mrs were met by confetti and a horde of cheering guests on the Castle steps before we headed outside into comparatively balmy sunshine. When you can enjoy your reception drinks outside, in February, you know the weather gods have treated you extremely well!

The evening was particularly memorable. Some couples have guests that really know how to throw down and suffice to say Sophie & Matt’s crowd slotted firmly into that category. From the get-go the dance floor was full and the energy high. It’s always fun to shoot when it’s like this! Apparently I also took some photographs of a nascent new romance (nothing too steamy, don’t fret…), so who knows – perhaps wedding clients of the future!

My thanks to Sophie & Matt for having me and to all their wonderful friends and family for being warm fun and very photogenic! Enough from me, time for some pictures of this gorgeous day. Enjoy.
